Lluc Sanctuary is a religious site located in the municipality of Escorca, surrounded by the Tramuntana Mountains. It is dating back to the 13th century and the history tells that the sanctuary was created as a dedication to Virgin Mary.
Today the sanctuary is a pilgrim site and one of Mallorca’s most important religious, cultural and touristic references.
Lluc offers an alternative for visitors to stay in a tranquil and spiritual environment. Here you can visit the house of spirituality for the practice of spiritual exercises, retreats or prayer (either as an individual or as part of a group).
The sanctuary has its own church dating back to the end of the 16th century and a museum with archaeology, religious images and jewellery. It has a beautiful inner courtyard and here you will find restaurants, cafés, a souvenir shop and a bakery. It is said that at Lluc you can eat the best lamb in the mountains and drink the purest water.
Lluc is famous for its choir school (boys and girls in the choir are known as “Blauets”) and it was established in the 16th century. Today there are about 40 boys and girls who study at the choir school and you can come and listen to them on Sundays and at special masses.
In 1956 a Botanical Garden was laid out and reserved for the religious community. But due to visitor demands, the garden was redesigned and expanded in the years from 1993 to 2001. Today you will find around 200 plants from the Balearics and the garden is open for the public.
The site also offers a recreation zone with barbecue area and 2 play areas for the kids. If you plan to stay longer than just over the day, you can book one of the many rooms available or use one of the 2 campsites Lluc has to offer.
