Cap de Formentor is the islands northern tip. This peninsula stretches 12 kilometers to the north east and it is about 3 kilometer wide. It is one of the most spectacular areas of the Sierra Tramuntana with its wild beauty.
The peninsula offers several points of interest. On the western side there is the beach of Formentor which is a sandy beach surrounded by dunes, pine wood and oak trees and it is sheltered by the island of Formentor. This area has not developed to a busy tourist resort even though there are tourist facilities in the summer. Close to the beach is the only hotel in the peninsula, the Hotel Formentor which was built in 1929.
The road to reach Cap de Formentor is very popular among cyclists with its twisted roads and exceptional scenery. Along the road there are several viewpoints offering astonishing views of the Mallorca beauty.
One of the most popular viewpoints on the way to the top is Mal Pas, which offers stunning views of the whole Formentor peninsula.
At the top of the Cap de Formentor, the most northerly point of Mallorca is the famous lighthouse. To visit this spot is sensational with the impressive view of the sea and jagged coast. On a bright day one can see the neighboring island Menorca.
The road to reach the top of the peninsula starts in Port Pollenca. It is about 13 km long and the route is hilly with a total height of 1600 m.
