The Can Bernat ceramic workshop is a family business which was founded back in 1850 in the small village Portol and the workshop has been running within the same family ever since. Generation after generation has continued to develop the skills to create beautiful ceramics typical to Mallorca.
The workshop is a hidden gem which is located on a narrow street in Santa Maria del Cami. Today the workshop is run by Catalina Vic and she has after her father continued with the specialty in producing tiles with every piece being handmade and unique, all carefully painted with patterns typical to Mallorca in the late nineteenth century. Customers can place special made orders of their preferred design on the tiles to decorate their home whether that is for the bathroom, kitchen or maybe the stairs.
Catalina Vic recovers brilliantly the spirit of ancient pottery, and with her personal contribution she makes each piece distinctive. She produces fine hand-made ceramics and with a small scale production she is involved in all levels of the making process. As you enter her shop you can sense the pride which she takes in making her ceramics.
Beautiful ceramics are lined up on the shelfs and next to her show room is her working place where you can see her forming the shapes of the pottery.
Passing through her small shop you can enter her garden and follow every step of the making process and see the ceramics evolving from a piece of clay to a lovely vase, bowl, coffee cup or tiles to form a beautiful stairway in a Mallorca home.
From the Can Bernat workshop you can bring home a piece of Mallorca.
